Board Game: Cartoon Network Fluxx
Board Game: Rock'em Sock'em Robots Dice Game
• In March 2014, U.S. publisher Looney Labs announced that it had signed a licensing deal with Cartoon Network to create themed versions of its existing games, with Regular Show Fluxx being the first title revealed. The second title coming from this agreement is Cartoon Network Fluxx, a.k.a. CN Fluxx, and as mentioned in an earlier BGGN post it includes characters from nine Cartoon Network shows, including Samurai Jack, The Powerpuff Girls, Ed, Edd n Eddy, Gumball, Adventure Time, and Regular Show. Both games debut at Comic-Con International in San Diego in July 2014, with Regular Show Fluxx reaching hobby stores in Q3 2014 and Cartoon Network Fluxx being an exclusive item in the Target retail chain starting in August 2014.

• For an even more weirdly nostalgic release, how about Mattel's Rock'em Sock'em Robots Dice Game, which comes packaged in a soda can-shaped container, perfect for throwing out accidentally when you're cleaning your car after a long trip. A summary of this quick-playing game:

Quote:
The Rock'em Sock'em Robots Dice Game tries to emulate the fast action of the Rock'em Sock'em Robots of old, with players rolling their dice as quickly as they can to get the same face on all dice — colors or icons, depending on a flip of the match coin. Whoever does this first flips one of the opponent's face-down life markers face up. Two of these markers are blank, and the other three have hits; if all three of your hits are revealed, you lose.

If you've been hit, you can try to roll "block" on all your dice. If you do, flip one of your face-up markers face down again, then shuffle it with your remaining face-down markers.
Board Game Publisher: Irongames
• Designer Bernd Eisenstein of Irongames has announced his big release for 2014: Panthalos, which is not a game about pant halos, which isn't a thing no matter how much I search on Google. No, Eisenstein is returning to the Greek mythos and culture evident in many of his releases. Expect to see Panthalos in September or October 2014 in time for Spiel 2014:

Quote:
Titans, the demi-gods of the underworld, threaten mankind, spreading mischief and chaos in the world — but the humans are prepared to defend themselves by creating their own Titans to withstand these attacks from the underworld. While this action happens all around them, the players try to carry on with normal life, too, acquiring goods, refining them to better merchandise, and delivering them to ships and dealers — not to mention strengthening their own Titans and using troops for even more power. To keep your followers active, you need to hold enough action discs.

Panthalos lasts at most eight rounds, but the game can end earlier if the powers of the underworld become too large...
Board Game: Oklahoma Boomers
• Dutch designer Martyn F has also announced his Spiel 2014 release, the two-player game Oklahoma Boomers, which reimplements his très cher abstract strategy game TWRS from 2009. An overview of the setting and gameplay:

Quote:
Oklahoma Boomers takes you back to the year 1889. The Land Run of Oklahoma has just taken place, and now you and your opponent strive to get your Boomers the largest homesteads — but that can be harder than it looks!

Each player has three Boomers. On a turn, a player moves one Boomer in a straight line on the game board grid, moving it as many spaces as they wish. After this, he may use this Boomer and one of the opponent's Boomers to place cornerstones on the game board; these cornerstones are placed on the intersections where these two Boomers would meet, should they move toward one another. (If one of the Boomers couldn't reach an intersection point due to another piece being in the way, that cornerstone is not placed.)

Chains of cornerstones form borders on the game board, and at some point these borders will close off certain areas from the rest of the game board. If Boomers of only one color are in an area, this area/homestead belongs to the owner of those Boomers.

The game ends once all Boomers have their own homestead. Players receive 1 point for every square in their homesteads, and whoever has the higher score wins.
