• Moritz Brunnhofer from Hans im Glück talked about a few new games in the BGG booth at Spiel 2014, but since much of the company's focus at the fair was on — what else? — perennial bestseller Carcassonne, multiple Carcassonne promo items and mini-expansions, and the latest spin-off title in the "Around the World" series — Carcassonne: Gold Rush, he also spent time presenting an overview of those items:
• Carcassonne wasn't the only HiG title with a new coat of paint at Spiel 2014. The second edition of Saint Petersburg from designer Bernd Brunnhofer and expansion designer Karl-Heinz Schmiel was also at the show, but in addition to a paint job this version includes new tire modules, room for a fifth player, and other changes.
• I know that Alexandr Ushan's Spyfall from Hobby World is a party game in which one player is a spy who is trying to uncover the location where everyone else is located. What I don't know is why the spy would be questioning other people to try to determine what the location is when he can just look around and see for himself — or perhaps I'm being too logical here...
• Yuri Zhuravlev's Viceroy from Hobby World sounds somewhat like a super-powered Renaissance Man, but instead of players simply trying to create a pyramid of characters, in Viceroy each of the characters carries an effect and the strength of that effect is determined by the level where it's located in the pyramid.
