Upper Deck Previews Legendary Encounters, Announces Deal for Predator and Firefly
Board Game: Legendary Encounters: An Alien Deck Building Game
In post Gen Con 2013 coverage in August, I wrote about Upper Deck Entertainment's suprise reveal during that convention: Legendary Encounters, a deck-building game based on its Marvel deck-building game Legendary and using the characters and settings of the four Alien movies from Twentieth Century Fox. Here's a short description of that game:

Quote:
Legendary Encounters: An Alien Deck Building Game is a fully cooperative game with original art. While based on the Marvel superheroes version of Legendary, the two games will be compatible but cannot be fully integrated.

Legendary Encounters is a deck-building game in the same family as Legendary, but now players must cooperate in order to survive against hordes of aliens. Players take turns recruiting cards for their deck from a central selection in order to improve their deck and defeat enemy cards that are added to the central game board.
Upper Deck Entertainment has now released a cover image for Legendary Encounters (as seen at right), but in addition to that, it's revealed a larger agreement with Twentieth Century Fox to release "trading cards, trading card games, stickers and sticker books inspired by the popular franchises" Alien, Predator and Firefly. Here's an excerpt from the press release announcing these items:

Quote:
"Fans of the popular Alien, Predator and Firefly franchises crave one-of-a-kind and engaging merchandise even now, years after the films and television series debuted," said Roz Nowicki, Executive Vice President of Global Sales and Retail at Fox Consumer Products. "We are looking forward to a continued partnership with Upper Deck, expanding our trading card offering to collectors and fans of these beloved sci-fi titles."

"Bringing in the popular Alien, Predator and Firefly franchises to expand our Legendary Deck Building game portfolio just makes sense," said Jason Masherah, President of Upper Deck. "At Upper Deck we aren't looking to just push out dozens of different games, in hopes that one or two might succeed. We believe that it is more important to focus our efforts and invest heavily in creating what we know will be a great gaming experience for our audience."

Upper Deck is planning to release additional trading card games for the three franchises, along with brand new lines of trading cards and stickers. Details and release dates for these products will be announced later this year.
