Board Game: You Suck
Designer/publisher Ted Alspach of Bézier Games would like to tell gamers the world over, "You suck".

Oh, wait, I read that press release incorrectly. Let's try it again: Designer/publisher Ted Alspach of Bézier Games would like to tell gamers the world over about You Suck, his latest card game design, which will debut at the 2013 Origins Game Fair in June. Here's an overview of the gameplay:

Quote:
All your life all you've wanted was to have the best, the biggest, and the most awesome tick collection in the world. With You Suck, that dream is close to becoming a reality.

Using a suited deck, you and your opponents will play cards onto seven different ticks, each with a unique power. Take advantage of these powers to ensure that you'll match your bid and capture even more ticks. You'll score points for bidding correctly and for capturing special bonus point ticks!

That's right – it's a tick-taking game, a close cousin of "trick-taking" games, but oh-so-much better because it has cute ticks. And it's more fun.
Says Alpsach, "I love trick-taking games. Wizard, Sticheln, Stich-Meister, , Was Sticht?, Hearts, Spades, Njet!, Control Nut, That gnome game with the silly long name, whatever, I love 'em all. I've designed a bunch of trick-taking games in the past, but this is the one that stuck (stuch?) out for me." (At a game design conference years ago, Alan Moon told me that every designer has a trick-taking game and they're notoriously tough to sell because so many have already been released. Alspach cleverly started his own publishing company years ago, so he probably doesn't have too much trouble convincing the fool in charge to publish his designs.)

As for the gameplay, Alpach says, "The truly unique thing about You Suck is that when it's time for you to play a card, you can play on top of ANY of the ticks that are still available. Someone else looks like they're winning the 'choose trump' tick that you had your eye on? Just play a higher card on it and now you're winning it. Or if you don't think you can beat them, just play on another tick, like the coveted '+3 points' tick."

If nothing else, you'll have fun telling other players that they suck. I can't wait until Alspach finally brings his Yo Mama... game to market...
