Deinko's Patchistory was undoubtedly the first sellout of the convention, with people lined up at the booth starting at 9:00 when exhibitors and press were admitted to the halls. As soon as the clock hit ten, people started handing over their 50s in exchange for a mysterious box, the contents of which will be revealed only in time. Maybe someone will play it during the fair and find out what's really going on. If nothing else, Deinko will demo the game in the BGG booth on Thursday and BGG will have two copies of the game at BGG.CON in November 2013.
In a rare moment of sitting, I played a game of Yves Tourigny's Blueprints before hitting the demo circuit in the Messe. Over three rounds, players draft dice in four colors and use them to build structures on a secret blueprint behind their player screen. The dice give points in various ways: wood for touching other dice; stone for being high in a column; glass for the pip value; and recycled materials for being used in bulk. You also earn points for matching your blueprint, which shows dice stacked in a particular configuration. Whoever scores the most points in a round receives a gold medal worth 3 VP; secondmost gets 2 VP and third 1 VP. Players can also score 2 VP for medals that show five dice in a stack, four or more dice of the same number, and two other combinations, with dice types serving as tiebreakers. After three rounds, whoever has the most VPs wins. Streamlined, fun and chancey, with the dice doing their thing to make you cheer and groan.
Now it's time to hit the floor to record demos for later publication on BGG News. Tschüss!
