I had the chance to attend PAX East – which took place March 22-24, 2013 – and while I normally cover iOS game news on BGG, I also got to meet designers and publishers of those analog board and card games that people still seem to be playing. Perhaps that shouldn't be a surprise as the tabletop scene at PAX East continues to grow steadily and was packed every night.
I recorded thirteen videos at the event – covering games newly released, games still to come, and games from recent years that caught my eye for one reason or another – and I've spread them out over three posts in order to keep the posts at a decent downloading speed. Enjoy!
Catan: Explorers & Pirates
This latest expansion for Klaus Teuber's The Settlers of Catan – released in German in late March 2013 and due out in English on April 18 – takes a scenario approach rather than the modular approach of the previous large expansion. Alex Yeager of Mayfair Games walks us through this expansion in the video below.
Road Rally USA
Alex Yeager also took us through Road Rally USA from designer Carlo Rossi. The game, due out before the end of April 2013, appears to be a Eurostyle racing game that can also appeal to casual gamers.
Dread Curse
Curt Covert from Smirk & Dagger Games gives a rundown of Stuart Sisk's Dread Curse, currently scheduled for a debut at Gen Con in August 2013. Check out the video for full details.
Ascension: Rise of Vigil
Justin Gary from Stone Blade Entertainment fills us in on the Ascension: Rise of Vigil standalone game/expansion card game that debuted at PAX East ahead of its retail release on April 3, 2013.
