New Game Round-up: Vermin Arrive, Digging Under Waterdeep & Moriarty Joins Holmes
Board Game: Catacombs
• Ryan Amos at Sands of Time Games reports that Catacombs (second edition, second printing), Catacombs: Cavern of Soloth (second printing), and the new Catacombs: Horde of Vermin are all either available in U.S. stores or soon to be available.

• As mentioned in a post-NY Toy Fair round-up, Mayfair Games is releasing a new edition of A House Divided in 2012. Designer Alan Emrich, who's worked on the second and third editions of the game, is soliciting feedback from fans of the game on behalf of Mayfair.

• In "old" news about new games, Richard van Vugt has posted his typically rich and creamily-yellow report on the annual Nürnberg convention on Dutch site Gamepack.nl. His write-up and photo report is divided by publisher, and highlights include shots of Asmodee's The Island (featuring tiles of identical thickness and other small changes that will be present in Stronghold's next edition of Survive: Escape from Atlantis), many images and decent descriptions of Targi and Waka Waka from Kosmos, coverage of Lookout Games' two-player short-playing Agricola: Die Bauern und das liebe Vieh and an unnamed and not-even-on-the-schedule prototype from Uwe Rosenberg, and an overview of Queen Games' Maharani.

Board Game: Lords of Waterdeep
• Designers Peter Lee and Rodney Thompson have been blogging about the creation of Lords of Waterdeep on the Wizards of the Coast website. In their latest post, they dig into the design of the game itself. From Thompson:

Quote:
One thing I don't love about some action drafting games is their lack of interaction; many can feel like you're playing four-player solitaire, and I wanted a game that felt like you were really interacting with other people. Another thing I really wanted was for the players, not the game, to introduce more actions into the game. Yet another goal was simple set-up and break-down; I wanted people to get into the game quickly and start playing, rather than spending a lot of time figuring out which component goes where on the game board....

That Monday I grabbed Pete and made him sit down and try out the prototype. A couple of rounds into the game, Pete was scowling at the board, and for about five rounds neither of us said a single word other than those necessary to communicate with each other as players of the game. We played through the full game, and then both of us sat back and looked at each other. There was a long silence during which I was convinced that Pete hated the game, and that I'd wasted a weekend putting it together.
Board Game: Sherlock Holmes Consulting Detective: The Thames Murders & Other Cases
• Ystari Games has announced that it will release an eleventh case for its new (French) version of Sherlock Holmes Consulting Detective, with Thomas Cauet writing "The Devil's Ransom" and Arnaud Demaegd and Neriac once again providing illustrations.

For those who don't want to wait, the French blog Gus and Co has released its own ten-card extension for SHCD called "Moriarty" in which one or more traitors – agents of Holmes' nemesis Moriarty – will be secretly trying to thwart the other investigators.
