• On Nov. 28, 2014, I announced What the Flick?! as the final title for a Western-themed, team-based, disc-flicking game from Z-Man Games and the design team of Jean-Yves Monpertuis and Gaëtan Beaujannot. Turns out that my announcement was premature as Z-Man owner F2Z Entertainment was setting up a new studio for the publication of this title and others to come in the future. The new studio is Pretzel Games and here's its description from F2Z:

Quote:
Pretzel Games aims to publish high-quality dexterity games that you can always play with a pretzel in hand. This studio plans to release two games per year starting at Gen Con 2015. These games will include only wooden pieces in an expertly crafted wooden box. The Pretzel Games studio will release games you can play inside with a group of friends, as well as games to enjoy outside during a backyard barbecue.
It almost sounds like the pretzel is required, doesn't it?

In the end, the design from Monpertuis and Beaujannot will be titled Flick 'em Up!, and the game will include multiple scenarios for gameplay.

I played one such scenario on the prototype in April 2014, with me and a partner working to free the Sheriff's daughter from a gang of bandits, but before we could bring her to safety, we first had to find where they had hid her. Each team had a group of characters, and we had to move each character once before we could move someone again. Once you entered a building by landing your character's disc in the doorway, you found (if not the daughter) a special item that you could use during play. I recall the characters having different special abilities, but no details about those. In any case, that — along with the image of the prototype below — should give you some sense of the game.

• U.S. publisher Greater Than Games notes on its Facebook page that Sentinels of the Multiverse: Wrath of the Cosmos — an expansion that includes "two cosmic heroes, four destructive villains, and two far-flung environments" — is shipping "in the next few weeks", so it may or may not hit stores before the end of the year.

Also due out in the near future from GTG are the Guise mini-expansion (a character card and a 40-card hero deck), the Wager Master mini-expansion (a character card and 25-card villain deck), and the Omnitron IV mini-expansion (a 15-card environment deck).

Family: Game: Dice Masters
WizKids Games has already taken preorders for the anticipated May 6, 2015 release of Marvel Dice Masters: Avengers – Age of Ultron, the next entry in the Marvel Dice Masters line from designers Eric M. Lang and Mike Elliott and one that debuts, hey, would you look at that, only five days after the debut of the Avengers: Age of Ultron movie. Why you might almost think that was planned or something?! for those who haven't played, here's an overview:

Quote:
In this game, each player fields one of the superhero teams, with each hero — Rocket Raccoon, Groot, Captain Marvel, Daredevil, Kang and more — being represented by custom-tooled dice; each team must be composed of 15 dice, and a player can "purchase" dice only from his team. Each hero also has one or more character reference cards, which show the special abilities for the characters based on the die rolls. Different versions of these cards will be available in booster packs, allowing for more customization of your team. Players use these dice to collect energy, recruit new heroes, and battle head-to-head. In addition, each player brings two basic action cards to the game, which are placed in the center of the table; both players can purchase these cards. A player wins once the opposing player has been reduced to zero life.
In addition to the characters mentioned above, Marvel Dice Masters: Avengers – Age of Ultron includes new cards and dice for Avengers characters such as Iron Man, Hulk, Captain America, Black Widow, and Thor.

Guillotine Games has launched a website and Facebook page for its next release: Blood Rage from designer Eric M. Lang (him again!) and artist Adrian Smith. The sites lack much material on them now other than a couple of images, one miniature and a movie-style trailer voiced by a robot, but I'm sure more material will come soon enough. Here's an overview of the game from the publisher:

Quote:
"Life is Battle; Battle is Glory; Glory is ALL"

Blood Rage is an epic Viking board game of pillaging, fighting, and questing for 2-4 players, with each player representing a mighty clan of Vikings, who have been released from the halls of Valhalla and endowed with the gifts of the gods themselves to pillage the remains of Midgard as it burns during Ragnarok.
