• U.S. publisher Upper Deck Entertainment has unveiled the full name of its first expansion for Devin Low's Legendary: A Marvel Deck Building GameDark City. As previously noted on BGG News, Dark City will include "seventeen new heroes, six new villain groups, five new Masterminds (including Apocalypse and Kingpin), and two new Henchmen groups". A Feb. 21, 2013 press release from Upper Deck notes that heroes in Dark City will include members of X-Force and Marvel Knights, and the expansion will also include new Schemes. Dark City has a June 25, 2013 release date.

• In old news that I missed while traveling (yet somehow also missed while at NY Toy Fair), Gale Force Nine has announced Firefly: The Game, based on the Joss Whedon television series. No details about the gameplay have been revealed yet, and the game is due out Q4 2013, with advance copies possibly making it to Gen Con 2013 (similar to what GF9 did at Gen Con 2012 for Spartacus: A Game of Blood & Treachery).

The curious thing about this announcement is that in late January 2013, as noted on BGGN, U.S. publisher Toy Vault had announced a license for Firefly and stated that it planned "to launch multiple table-top games, decorative pillows, a line of collectable mini-plushes of the entire Serenity crew, and more". In a Feb. 11, 2013 update following the game announcement, a GF9 rep posted the following on the publisher's website:

Quote:
Our agreement with Fox is exclusive to us and has nothing to do with the Toy Vault license in any way. We are going to be making "board games, tabletop miniature games and card games" over the next three years and our first project on the schedule is the Firefly board game you can see shown in the images below.

Board Game: Krosmaster: Arena
• Alberto Corral's Náufragos is turning into one of those "simultaneously released in all languages to dominate the market and crush the competition" games, with Italian publisher Ghenos Games signing on for an Italian version that's expected out in March 2013.

• In May 2013, Ghenos Games will also have an Italian version of Krosmaster Arena, first released by French publisher Ankama in 2012.

Board Game Publisher: Cheapass Games
• U.S. publisher Cheapass Games and designer James Ernest – which are really one and the same thing, mind you – have posted print-and-play files for the years-in-the-making Veritas from Ernest and co-designer Mike Selinker. No, seriously, the percolation time on this design has been a long one, with the BGG page for Veritas having been created in 2006. Ernest notes that the files are available as part of an "open beta" test program, with feedback encouraged from users through March 1, 2013 ahead of the game's publication in Q2/Q3 2013. For those unaware of the game, here's a short description:

Quote:
Veritas is a Euro-style board game about the preservation of truth in Dark Ages France. Each player represents some "truth" that's trying to be preserved for posterity by diligent book-copying monks. Players place and copy book tokens in monasteries, then pick up stacks of books and spread them around France. Each turn, a monastery will burn down, and the books in it may be destroyed. After the monasteries have burned down, players can move through them, so travel on the board gets faster as the game progresses. When scoring chips are drawn, each player whose ideology dominates a region scores points. The first player to score 100 points wins, becoming the dominant truth as the Dark Ages end.
• Along the same lines, Ernest and Cheapass Games have also made available print-and-play files for a new edition of Captain Treasure Boots, which was originally released in 2005. Ernest notes that he's "stripped out half the old rules (no kidding) and added a couple new ones", and feedback is welcome to March 1 ahead of the game's Q3 2013 release.

• Finally, Ernest and Cheapass plan to release Fish Cook in Q2 2013, and that game is also available in a print-and-play format for those who prefer to try before buying – or instead of buying.
