• In old news that I missed while traveling (yet somehow also missed while at NY Toy Fair), Gale Force Nine has announced Firefly: The Game, based on the Joss Whedon television series. No details about the gameplay have been revealed yet, and the game is due out Q4 2013, with advance copies possibly making it to Gen Con 2013 (similar to what GF9 did at Gen Con 2012 for Spartacus: A Game of Blood & Treachery).
The curious thing about this announcement is that in late January 2013, as noted on BGGN, U.S. publisher Toy Vault had announced a license for Firefly and stated that it planned "to launch multiple table-top games, decorative pillows, a line of collectable mini-plushes of the entire Serenity crew, and more". In a Feb. 11, 2013 update following the game announcement, a GF9 rep posted the following on the publisher's website:
• In May 2013, Ghenos Games will also have an Italian version of Krosmaster Arena, first released by French publisher Ankama in 2012.
• U.S. publisher Cheapass Games and designer James Ernest – which are really one and the same thing, mind you – have posted print-and-play files for the years-in-the-making Veritas from Ernest and co-designer Mike Selinker. No, seriously, the percolation time on this design has been a long one, with the BGG page for Veritas having been created in 2006. Ernest notes that the files are available as part of an "open beta" test program, with feedback encouraged from users through March 1, 2013 ahead of the game's publication in Q2/Q3 2013. For those unaware of the game, here's a short description:
• Finally, Ernest and Cheapass plan to release Fish Cook in Q2 2013, and that game is also available in a print-and-play format for those who prefer to try before buying – or instead of buying.
