Board Game: The Witches: A Discworld Game
• Designer/publisher Martin Wallace of Treefrog Games has announced two titles due out before the end of 2013, the first being a 2,000-copy collector's edition of The Witches: A Discworld Game, which is also being released by Mayfair Games, IELLO, Devir and Phalanx Games Polska. This collector's edition features four custom-sculpted pewter figurines of the witch characters as well as a larger game board and a poster; this version of the game will be available at Spiel 2013 or via preorder from the Treefrog Games website starting September 20, 2013.

The second game announced by Treefrog is Field of Glory: The Card Game, a two-player game due out October 2013 that's inspired by the Field of Glory miniatures rule system. Here's an overview, with the complete rules being linked to on the game page:

Quote:
The game is split into two parts. You first decide which units with which to fight, constructing a deck of 24 unit cards. You then fight a battle across a battlefield made up of five terrain cards; to win the game, you must take control of three of these terrain cards. The army cards represent the main troop types of the period, such as heavy infantry, light cavalry and elephants, each having its own strengths and weaknesses. To be able to play units onto the battlefield, you must discard other cards to pay the movement costs involved, giving you a number of difficult decisions to make.

Field of Glory: The Card Game is of medium complexity and should take 20-30 minutes to play.
Update, October 16, 2013: Wallace has announced that Slitherine has cancelled the license for Field of Glory: The Card Game, so all copies of the game have been destroyed and consequently I've removed the game listing from the BGG database.

Board Game: Dr. Hrubec
• For the past couple of years, Czech Board Games has released bizarrely-themed games at the Spiel game convention, with 2011's Infarkt being a party game in which you tried to kill your neighbors by stuffing them with food and smokes while 2012's Czech Pub had you playing an opportunistic drunkard. Thankfully the trend continues in 2013 with Dr. Hrubec from designer Štěpán Peterka. Here's an overview of the game:

Quote:
"I am Hrubec, Doctor Hrubec. I am not licensed to kill. However, it happens. Sometimes a surgery turns into an autopsy. Alcoholics, mutants, crazy cows. On top of it all, an audit and someone stole my doctor again...

"Our hospital is crazy and life is tough here, so steal the best doctors. Get rid of the worst patients. Crimp the enemies. Remember that you have to cure at least someone if you want to win. It's up to you."

Dr. Hrubec is a fast party card game in which you build a team of mad doctors and try to cure strange patients in a hospital that will soon close. Every doctor on your team is skilled in different specializations, such as surgery, psychiatry, dental and dermatology. Patients have different problems and must be cured with the different specializations. You can aid your team with different action cards or try to disrupt other players. The end of the game comes when the hospital closes.

Board Game: Stories!
• In an Aug. 29, 2013 post, I reported on rumors of a Ticket to Ride expansion map set in the Netherlands that was inadvertently announced (then removed) from the site of German retailer Milan Spiele. Now Italian publisher Asterion Press has released the cover of Ticket to Ride: Nederland in this press release on its website, which announces a new partnership between TtR publisher Days of Wonder and Asterion. The press release mentions an October 2013 release date for this new addition to the Ticket to Ride Map Collection series, with Ticket to Ride: Europe to follow in Italy in December 2013.

• One of the many new titles from German publisher Schmidt Spiele for the second half of 2013 is Stories! from designer Thomas Odenhoven-Kaller. Schmidt hasn't released the full rules for the game, but here's a summary of what you're doing:

Quote:
In Stories!, players take turns telling stories to one another, with the topics being determined by random card draw. Before a player tells a story, all of the other players list five terms that they expect to hear during the story; for each term mentioned, the player scores points. By asking questions during the telling of the story, they can try to steer the story in the direction they want – but each time you ask a question, you lose points. Ask the right questions and you'll win; ask too much too often, however, and you'll lose...
Like the sound of it, but German-only cards is going to keep it off my game tables in the U.S. A Geekgold bounty awaits your translation effort...
