Unfortunately, the goods in stores are rationed, and the number and kind of ration cards distributed rarely corresponds with what you need. Instead those cards might land in the hands of other players. You soon realize that success depends on how clever and smooth you are in exchanging ration cards with players standing in the same queue — but you need to hurry as the clerk will finish her tea in just one minute and start selling the goods.
Reglamentacja: Gra na Kartki includes a richly illustrated booklet that features a historic overview of the last decade of Communism in Poland and the principles of distribution of controlled goods.
• AEG has at least two expansions for Hisashi Hayashi's Trains in the works for release in 2014, with a map pack due out in July 2014 and an expansion titled "Rising Sun" — featuring both new maps and new cards — due out later in 2014.
• In related news, Filosofia Édition will release Trains in French in 2014.
• And rolling into another item about Filosofia, French game site Gus and Co teases a disc-flicking, team-based game set in the Wild West that includes multiple scenarios such as robbing a bank and saving a kidnapped beauty. Designer Jean-Yves Monpertuis brought the prototype of Pitch in the West, as the game has been called to date, to the game festival at Cannes in 2011. Said Monpertuis in an article on La Montagne, "Publishers often send their troops to test the proposed games in the 'off' area, and word-of-mouth had its effect because I quickly found myself with the world around my stand."
Gus and Co notes that the prototype includes 3D elements such as fences, cacti, barrels, rails, horses and buildings; a mechanical clock; and weapons that you can collect and shoot at one another, but without flicking. (Whether all of those components will end up in the final product is a mystery as designers have been known to be more ambitious than reasonable.) After checking with Filosofia, I'll note that the game's name has not been finalized, and it will be released in both French and English in 2015. (Update, Dec. 8, 2014: This game's final title is Flick 'em Up!, and Pretzel Games will be listed as the publisher of record.)
