• Zombicide has started to ship to Kickstarter backers in the U.S., with international shipments to proceed following the Gen Con convention that takes places August 16-19 because publisher Cool Mini Or Not is waiting for T-shirts to ship with those games. As for Zombicide's availability at Gen Con, CMON's Bryan Steele says, "Zombicide will be on hand and for sale, limited to 50 copies per day. However, we are going to do a cool raffle for five 'Abomination' level free upgrades (30 miniatures!) each day to people who bought a copy of the game that day."
• In June 2012, I noted that GTS Distribution had acquired an exclusive distribution deal for Stefan Feld's Trajan. While the release date listed in that news item was July 2012, the games have only recently arrived and GTS has listed an August 17 release date for Trajan in the U.S., with an MSRP of $70.
• Speaking of GTS, Bruce Whitehill's abstract strategy game Talat from German publisher HUCH! & friends has also been picked up by GTS and will be available at various U.S. retailers after August 17, 2012. HUCH! & friends' Nox will be available in the U.S. at the same time. Wonder what else was on that container?
• Grpyhon Games will release a new title from designer Kory Heath that transforms his Blockers! board game into something newish and different. Here's a description of Blockers! The Card Game, due out in September 2012:
On a turn, a player plays a "hand" card that specifies a row, column or 2x2 region and claims one victory card in the appropriate location. (Alternatively, a player can use a kicker card as a joker.) Each time you claim a victory card after the first one, the card must match the color or shape on the victory card that you claimed the previous turn. Once all players pass, the round ends and empty spaces on the board are refilled with victory cards. When the victory card deck is exhausted, the game ends and the player with the most victory cards wins.
