New Game Round-up: Erecting Walls in Londonderry, Bringing The Crow Back to Life & Pulling Pints Not Fit to Drink
Board Game Publisher: Mercury Games
• North American publisher Mercury Games plans to release The Walled City: Londonderry, a design from Daryl Andrews and Stephen Sauer with art by Josh Cappel, in August 2014. Here's an overview of the setting and gameplay:

Quote:
The Walled City: Londonderry pits rival politicians against one another to become the first mayor of the city. Founding a medieval walled city is no easy task, however, and you are about to find out just how difficult it can be!

The game consists of two rounds, each with multiple turns followed by a scoring phase. In each turn, you play cards to build roads that form neighborhoods with citizens that have allegiances to one of the players. You'll nominate watchmen to the towers, rig districts (gerrymandering), and raise great walls. All of these play a part in solidifying your power as you attempt to climb to the top of the political heap. Providing a safe place to live for the peasants will earn you a large reward, but failing to construct the city wall in time will see the loyal knights abandon the city for safe haven.

All the while, the Guilds that you align yourself with impart special powers that can upset the plans of your rivals. Move a road to form a new neighborhood where the citizens in your camp are in the majority or remove a wall that protects rival citizens from the ravages of the surrounding area. The Guilds will affect the outcome of who runs the city when the dust settles.
Board Game Publisher: Upper Deck Entertainment
• I was mildly surprised when IDW Games announced The X-Files game from Kevin Wilson in mid-March 2014. "Is anyone still interested in reliving this series?" I asked no one in particular. "Are the fans still out there?" Turns out that's not the only blast from the past being reborn for today's gamers as Upper Deck Entertainment has signed a deal with Pressman Film "to bring the popular franchise The Crow to fans via trading cards, board games, limited edition posters, miniature figurines, collectible art and more". From the press release:

Quote:
The first product that Upper Deck is working on under the new multi-year agreement is a brand new game experience based on the new franchise release in March 2015....

From the original film to three movie sequels, a TV series and an extensive line of comics, there seems to be an unlimited amount of content for new Upper Deck products surrounding The Crow.

"There is a very hard core and passionate fan base for The Crow, which we greatly appreciate," said Jason Brenner, Upper Deck's Entertainment Brand Manager. "We will be taking great care to keep true to the movie and comic characters, and plan to uphold this legacy to its fullest."
Board Game: Pints of Blood
• With Pints of Blood, we see an author with a Japanese pseudonym (Kinjiro) and a German publisher collaborating on a game set in the UK featuring the standard U.S. theme of a zombie attack. Gaming is truly an international wonder! Here's an overview of the game, due out in October 2014 from HUCH! & friends:

Quote:
Some old habits die hard. As the city is unexpectedly hit by disaster, and its inhabitants are slowly turning into hordes of hungry undead, an ever-growing assembly of zombies is beginning to queue outside a little corner pub. Inside a small group of patrons suddenly becomes aware that the evening is going to be more than just beer and snacks, and they're forced to take up whatever arms are within reach to avoid the fate of ending up as someone else's snack.

In Pints of Blood, you must keep the zombies from entering the pub, and they're outside ready to move forward whenever they see any sign of life at the windows or door – or if they're pushed from behind by the ever-increasing number of zombies that are being brought in by the still running public transport.

But no need to despair as help is on its way! Rally with your fellow survivors and hold out until the rescue vehicle makes its appearance. Be aware, however, that it might not have room for everyone, so at some point you may have to decide whether to support your mates or to fight for yourself — but if all buddies die before help arrives, the zombies win.
• For International TableTop Day, Alderac Entertainment Group gave participating stores coupons for The Big Geeky Box, something meant to hold lots of cards from Smash Up and its varied expansions, while also including one new faction of its own: Geek and Sundry Geeks, a single faction deck based on the characters and shows on the online Geek and Sundry channel, including TableTop. This item is due out in Q3 2014.

• AEG has also posted the rulebook (PDF) for Kuro's card-drafting game Seventh Hero, due out in July 2014.
