New Game Round-up: Digging and Deck-Building, Rolling and Rallying & Flicking and Fighting
Board Game: Super Motherload
Board Game: Steampunk Rally
• First-time Canadian publisher Roxley Games plans to make its debut with two games in the next twelve months: Super Motherload from Gavan Brown and Matt Tolman, and Steampunk Rally from Orin Bishop. Super Motherload is an adaptation of the digital Super Motherload game available on PS3, PS4 and PC. The game description from Roxley is scant for now:

Quote:
You have been chosen to lead an elite crew of Pod pilots who will delve below the surface of Mars in Solarus Corporation's first major drilling expedition. Super Motherload delights the senses and challenges spacial relation skills for 2-4 players who love video games, Eurostyle board games, or deck-building card games.
Roxley describes Super Motherload, due out November 15, 2014, as "the world's first tile-laying deck-building game" and notes that it features "[t]ons of comboing and epic moments" as well as game boards that "are added and removed during play to create videogame-like scrolling action", perhaps akin to what's being featured in The Battle at Kemble's Cascade. By chance (or not), Tolman's first release — Undermining from Z-Man Games in 2011 — also dealt with mining.

Steampunk Rally, due out in Q2 2015 after a mid-2014 Kickstarter campaign, is another take on the steampunk genre that features 120 dice:

Quote:
Steampunk Rally is a strategy game that incorporates steampunk as more than just a bit of chrome. Using a unique dice-placement mechanism, players take on the roles of famous inventors like Nikola Tesla and Marie Curie constructing fantastical contraptions that make use of steam, heat and electricity in an attempt to win a no-holds-barred race through the Swiss alps! Thousands of viable card combos add tons of depth and replayability, and simultaneous resolution keeps the action fast and furious.
Board Game: Theseus: The Dark Orbit
Board Game: Imperial Settlers
Portal Games has an expansion for Michał Oracz's Theseus: The Dark Orbit in the works for release at Spiel 2014. I know nothing about it other than its future existence, but let's assume it contains, oh, three new factions, two new rooms, and something completely unexpected like one rainbow unicorn.

• Ignacy Trzewiczek's Imperial Settlers, which Portal Games will debut at Gen Con 2014 in August, will be available in the U.S. exclusively through ACD Distribution.

Looney Labs will add yet another Fluxx title to its line-up in October 2014 with Andy Looney's Holiday Fluxx, which will feature holidays from New Year's Day to Halloween to Hanukkah to Christmas in what's intended to be an introductory version of the game.

Board Game: Descent: Journeys in the Dark (Second Edition) – Guardians of Deephall
Board Game: Dungeon Fighter: Fire at Will
Board Game: Dungeon Fighter: The Big Wave
Fantasy Flight Games has announced a new-ish release for Descent: Journeys in the Dark (Second Edition), the next item in its "Hero and Monster Collection" of miniatures titled Guardians of Deephall. This expansion consists of four heroes and three monster groups that were previously available in the first edition of Descent, but have now been reworked "in line with second edition aesthetics" as well as two new quests. In somewhat more detail:

Quote:
In this expansion, you'll find the orc warrior Mordrog battling in the front lines alongside Lord Hawthorne. At the same time, Sahla, a gifted Healer, focuses his power by channeling the strength of other heroes, even as the deadly assassin known as Silhouette uses her stealth and cunning to cut her enemies down. As for the quests, in "Guardians of Deephall", the heroes must defend the walls of Deephall against a seemingly endless assault of undead and dark priests. Then, in "The Curse of Iona", the hero party must venture into the icy lair of a dragon sorceress to reclaim a pendant that may be Deephall's salvation.
• FFG has also announced that it will "soon" release Fire at Will and The Big Wave, two expansions for Dungeon Fighter from the design team of Buonfino, Silva, and Sorrentino that have already been released in Europe. Horrible Games — the current DF publisher following Lorenzo Silva's spin-off from Cranio Creations, which still distributes the game in Italy — has already been teasing the game's third expansion on Facebook:
