Geoff and Sydney Engelstein's Space Cadets: Dice Duel is a spin-off of their own Space Cadets, but instead of being a cooperative game, in Dice Duel players are divided into two teams, with each team trying to be the first to inflict four points of damage on the other team's spaceship. The dice represent the six bridge stations on the spaceships, each of which has a different function, and players will either take on the role of Captain for their team or be responsible for one or more bridge stations. To date Geoff Engelstein has posted previews of how the bridge stations work and how the Helm works. This game will be available at stores in Q3 2013.
The other three titles coming from Stronghold are expansions for Mark Chaplin's Revolver, with those expansions being Revolver Expansion 1.3: Vengeance on the Frontier, Revolver Expansion 1.4: The Tarnished Star, and Revolver Expansion 1.5: Death Rides a Horse, with expansions #3 and #5 being co-designed by Andrew Davis. Each expansion includes ways to tweak the two card decks in various ways in addition to adding other small elements.
• In Q4 2013, Z-Man Games will release an English-language edition of Carcassonne: Winter Edition, which is similar to the Carcassonne base game with the addition of twelve new tiles. The Facebook post announcing this release mentions that players "can also enlist the help of the Gingerbread Man", so I'd presume that the six-tile Carcassonne: Winter-Edition: Der Lebkuchenmann expansion is included in the box.
• U.S. publisher Gamewright has passed along word that it plans to release an English-language version of 2013 Spiel des Jahres nominee Qwixx in North America in 2014.
• U.S. publisher Griddly Games will release the party/word game Show Me The Kwan from designer Martin Nedergaard Andersen. Here's a summary of the gameplay, which includes no mention of the origin of the word "kwan":
Alternatively, if you can come up with three words in the category that use a particular letter die – whether already claimed or still on the table – in the first, second and last positions (e.g., using "T" for "Touchdown", "sTance" and "punT" in a football category), then you can shout "Show Me The Kwan!", which ends the round immediately. In addition to any other points, you score three times the value of the letter used, plus 5 points. (If you used an opponent's die to create the kwan, that opponent doesn't score for the die.) Whoever scores fifty points first wins.
The Necromancer is a dark, sinister Mage who dabbles in the darkest of the black arts. His primary strengths lie in the summoning of the undead. His Graveyard spawnpoint summons armies of skeletons, zombies, and ghouls to do his bidding. His theme is a relentless assault. His skeletons are fragile, but keep reassembling themselves from a pile of bones to attack again! Zombies are slow, but very difficult to "kill". Both of these creatures just keep coming! Additionally, the Necromancer summons and controls evil spirits: ghosts and wraiths. He has an affinity with death and disease, and can quickly spread plagues across the arena.
