The game under discussion, by the way, is Desktopia from designers Timofey Bokarev and Konstantin Seleznev – Настолье in Russian, which means "the country on the table", and in this disc-flicking faction-based game, players do indeed set up their own country on a table, then proceed to start fighting for space in that sweet area hit by the afternoon sun passing through the window. Here's a sampling of the setting and gameplay:
Desktopia is a disc-flicking game for 1-4 players that can be played on any flat surface. Each player controls one of four Orders of Nastola: unpredictable Fire, indomitableGrass, resourceful Metal and sinister Dust. Each order has unique powers, and the discs can eliminate or paralyze opponents, capture artifacts or strengthen one of your own units. Components on the table can be incorporated into the game as obstacles or goals.
• In addition to its new Darkness Unleashed expansion for the Ascension deck-building game, U.S. publisher Stone Blade Entertainment is releasing Ascension: Apprentice Edition, a 110-card set designed to be an introductory experience for two players to Ascension. Here's a bit more detail:
All the cards in Ascension: Apprentice Edition feature new frames to assist players in telling the Heroes apart from the Constructs. The card borders are colored differently for the starting deck, the center deck, and "always available" cards to make sorting easier at the end of the game. The set also includes new art for many cards, as well as retouched versions of old favorites.
• Satoshi Nakamura's Fairy Tale has been through a number of editions in its first decade of life, and that number will rise by one with a new edition coming from Z-Man Games. In a comment on BGG, Z-Man's Zev Shlasinger writes, "Yep, we are working on a reprint. New layout. Some other things. Not sure what I can announce at this point." Given Z-Man's 2013 overhauls of Black Spy and Parade, I'd imagine that the new Fairy Tale will be part of this card game line.
