New Game Round-up: Color Yourself Ready for Crime and Swarming Animals in the Pacific Northwest

New Game Round-up: Color Yourself Ready for Crime and Swarming Animals in the Pacific Northwest
Board Game Publisher: Flatout Games
• I've been running across lots of game announcements that consist mostly of an image and little more, as with a pre-PAX Unplugged tease of Cascadia from Randy Flynn and Flatout Games.

Given that I missed that show and therefore couldn't demo it in Philadelphia, here's all that I know about the game right now: "Cascadia is a puzzle-y tile-laying game featuring the habitats and wildlife of the Pacific Northwest."

Board Game: Cascadia

Board Game: Aqualin
• Following the titles I covered in this early December 2019 post, German publisher KOSMOS has continued to tease its early 2020 releases on Instagram. Here's an overview of the two-player game Aqualin from Marcello Bertocchi, which is due out in Q1 2020:
Quote:
There's turmoil at the reef, with different sea animals forming swarms again and again.

Each turn in Aqualin, the active player selects one of six stones and places it on an empty field. The two players arrange their groups of sea dwellers either by color or animal species, with them having the ability to move a stone before placing a new one to form new swarms. Whoever forms the largest swarms after 36 moves wins!

• On top of that, KOSMOS has picked up Crime Writers, a design from Bori Mészáros and Ádám Vágó and Hungarian publisher Lulla Games, for release in German in partnership with thriller author Veit Etzold. Here's an overview of how this game works:
Quote:
In the semi-co-operative card game Crime Stories, each player draws cards from different categories such as crime scene, perpetrator, motive, and cause of death, then writes a short crime story based on these keywords.

Next, all other players try to discover what this story is about, asking questions about the keywords, determining the details, and reconstructing the case. If you don't want to write a story yourself, you can present the stories of thriller author Veit Etzold included in the game.
Board Game: Cosmic Colonies
• To repeat what I wrote the other day, I find myself discovering Kickstarted titles long after those crowdfunding campaigns have ended, with the most recent such title being Cosmic Colonies from Scott Almes and Floodgate Games (KS link). The campaign ran in October, though, when my eyes saw everything through SPIEL-colored glasses, so perhaps I shouldn't be surprised that I missed it. In any case, here's what you'll find in this May 2020 release:
Quote:
Asteroids blast through the cosmos, each one packed with possibilities. One may be your perfect new home, but it takes a stellar team to build a cosmic colony...

Cosmic Colonies is an orbit-drafting game of building a home in the stars. Players must leverage their workers' unique abilities to gather resources and construct new buildings while cleverly expanding their colonies. Each round brings new opportunities — and new talent. Your old workers will blast off to other players, while their workers orbit around to join your team!
• Floodgate Games has also teased an upcoming release from Julio E. Nazario titled Holi: The Color Festival. I know nothing about the game at this point, but this Vincent Dutrait cover is fire:
