Gen Con 2012: Reports from Elsewhere
Board Game: Legendary: A Marvel Deck Building Game
(Okay, this news item consists only of old news – old being relative, of course, since the items all relate to the Gen Con game convention held in August 2012 – but I just discovered this draft in the news queue and thought I'd go ahead and publish it instead of deleting it. Maybe you can still find things of interest in the reports below. If not, you'll just have to settle for a photo of me deep in thought. —WEM)

• On The Opinionated Gamers, Matt Carlson has a looooong report with lots of images, including one of yours truly at the Legendary game demo sponsored by Upper Deck. It was great to meet Matt after working with him on-and-off since 2007 on Boardgame News and TOG; squeaking past his Iron Man-engine deck for a tight win in the Marvel deck-building game was just a plus.

• Opinionated Gamers editor Dale Yu has a photo-with-caption report from his single day at the convention.

• French game news site Tric Trac was at Gen Con 2012, and editor Monsieur Phal has posted an overview of the con (in French, of course) and its U.S. setting, along with a photo album that contains more than 400 images.

Chris Kirkman of Dice Hate Me Games has a photo-heavy report, with a focus on prototypes shown in John Moller's Unpub area. I'll disagree with the "meh" assessment of Battle Beyond Space that he attributed to me. I think the nature of the game – being a thirty-minute affair in which you pretty much try to kill your ships to score points – took the others by surprise, in addition to my superpowered resurrection stealing the wind from an opponent's sails.

• Christian Wilson at MeepleTown talks about the Artemis Bridge Simulator, "a computer-based cooperative video game" that comes across as a life-sized version of Space Alert.

Jason Tagmire, designer of Pixel Lincoln: The Deckbuilding Game, posted a photo-heavy report of his own on Fruitless Pursuits, including a shot of me working through Seasons:

• U.S. publisher Fantasy Flight Games released a video recap of each day of the convention – day 1, day 2, day 3 (which includes news of announced titles), and day 4 – as has been its custom.
