• I'm still not sure whether I completely understand what's going on in Leo Colovini's Atzlán, which is coming from Italian publisher Ares Games in late 2012, but props to Grace as she was incredibly nervous at first about being on camera. (Her fellow demo-ers egged her own, mostly because they were not the ones on camera.) I'm a huge Colovini fan, so I understand that his designs often are incredibly simple in concept while revealing more substance through play. Looking forward to trying this out later in 2012, and perhaps I can do the gamer's preview at that time.
• Designer/publisher Ben Harkins of Floodgate Games gives an overview of Legacy: Gears of Time, which had a big presence at Gen Con 2012 for a new publisher. In part, this is thanks to Gen Con's "marketing fellowship" program. How that program works is that first-time booth holders at the convention can present their booth plans and marketing programs ahead of time, and some of them – the ones that look good obviously – will be rewarded with double the space they requested. Floodgate Games was one such recipient.
• Another "marketing fellowship" recipient was Rather Dashing Games, which was showing off its latest release – Four Taverns, from designer/company co-owner Mike Ritchie. He explained, though, that the drawback to winning such a large space was that they then had to scramble to redesign their booth to fill it! Not that he was complaining about the extra tables he had to demo games, mind you...
• Stephen Buoncore from Stronghold Games runs down a huge number of games forthcoming from this U.S. publisher, highlighting Crude: The Oil Game, due to debut at Spiel 2012 in October.
