Face The Great Split on Caldera Park: Raise Robots or Race to the Raft

Face The Great Split on Caldera Park: Raise Robots or Race to the Raft
Board Game: Savannah Park
• In 2021, German publisher Deep Print Games released Savannah Park from designers Michael Kiesling and Wolfgang Kramer, a game in which players take turns telling everyone which animal tile to move on their game board, and for 2022 this trio is coming together for a similar-sounding game in a new setting and with new gameplay.

Here's an overview of the 2-4 player game Caldera Park:
Quote:
Welcome to the wilderness of North America! Breathtaking mountain views and spectacular geysers await you. Vast forests and meadows provide habitats for native animals. Your task is to group these animals together in herds as large as possible — but large herds are only half the battle: To score lots of points, these animals also need access to springs and must avoid bad weather.

Board Game: Caldera Park

Caldera Park is an interactive puzzle-game that achieves a perfect balance between strategic planning and luck. Your turn comprises two simple steps: First, you choose a species and a landscape from a limited selection. Then, each player must place one of their tokens showing that species onto one of their park spaces showing that landscape. What seems no trouble at first grows more and more challenging and exciting as the available spaces become fewer and fewer. And while the choices of your fellow players can disrupt your plans, you must also take into account unpredictable weather tokens.

After five rounds, the game ends with a final scoring phase in which you score not only for your most valuable herds, but also for cleverly populating certain landscapes.
Board Game: The Isle of Cats
• Should you care to return to The Isle of Cats to save more felines, designer Frank West of The City of Games has a new title coming in 2023 that might be to your suiting: Race to the Raft. Here's a teaser:
Quote:
In this co-operative social puzzle game for 1-4 players, you play the role of the inhabitants of the isle of cats. Their home is burning, and the cats' last chance to escape is a small raft located on the other side of the island. You must work together, find your way through the smoke, and race to the raft!
• U.S. publisher Nauvoo Games has teased a new design from Brett Sobol and Seth Van Orden for release in 2023, with Raising Robots being a game for 1-7 players that plays in 60-90 minutes. Here are first details:
Quote:
Raising Robots is a competitive, simultaneously played, engine-building game.

Board Game: Raising Robots

In Raising Robots, you are a famous inventor seeking to assemble the greatest collection of robots. Each round, you simultaneously choose and perform two or more actions: upgrade, assemble, design, fabricate, recycle. Every action will be performed with a variable amount of power to make the action better or worse. However, the most powerful actions will also help your opponents.

Whoever has the most points after eight rounds wins.
• On July 18, I tweeted this:

Funny thing — Italian publisher Horrible Guild has now announced a "split" game of its own: The Great Split from designers Hjalmar Hach and Lorenzo Silva, with this 2-7 player game due out in Q4 2022 and playing as follows:
Quote:
In The Great Split, you draft cards to collect riches such as gems, gold, artwork, and tomes, adding them to your collection to make it the most prestigious of all!

Board Game: The Great Split

You start each round by splitting your cards into two groups, then you pass your wallet to the player on your left — but only one group of cards will be given back to you. You split, they choose! Don't despair, though, because while your opponent is looking at your split, you also receive a similar offer from the player on your right, so choose wisely. When your hand is complete, play your cards to add all those riches to your collection.

Each type of riches awards you prestige points in different ways, so maintain a balanced collection of gems, keep an eye on the value of the art market as it evolves, and pile up priceless tomes. Depending on how each player builds their collection, different riches will take on a different value for each of them. Show off your best haggling skills in crafting your split, and create the perfect offer to push your opponent to take what you want them to take...leaving you with the tastiest loot!

Be prepared for when the mid-game scorings are triggered. Manage your gold reserves sensibly to get additional riches, and make your collection just right!
