Crowdfunding Round-up: Steel Stars, Dragon's Bard, Gauntlet of Fools, Avalon & The Keep
Board Game: The Resistance: Avalon
• As some users pointed out in the last c.f. round-up, U.S. publisher Indie Boards and Cards has launched a Kickstarter project for Don Eskridge's The Resistance: Avalon, a sequel/standalone game/expansion for Eskridge's The Resistance. (KS link) Here's an overview of the game:

Quote:
The Resistance: Avalon pits the forces of Good and Evil in a battle to control the future of civilization. Arthur represents the future of Britain, a promise of prosperity and honor, yet hidden among his brave warriors are Mordred's unscrupulous minions. These forces of evil are few in number but have knowledge of each other and remain hidden from all but one of Arthur's servants. Merlin alone knows the agents of evil, but he must speak of this only in riddles. If his true identity is discovered, all will be lost.

The Resistance: Avalon is a standalone game, and while The Resistance is not required to play, the games are compatible and can be combined.
Board Game: Gauntlet of Fools
• And not content to take our money for just one project, Indie's Travis Worthington launched a second KS project the day after Avalon's went live, this one for Donald X. Vaccarino's Gauntlet of Fools. (KS link) Here's a short description of what's going on in this light late-night game:

Quote:
Gauntlet of Fools is an adventure game of skill and fortune for 2-6 that plays in under 30 minutes. Choose your hero from hundreds of possible combinations. You'll make ridiculous boasts to get the best hero – but every boast comes at a cost. How awesome is your knight with a flaming sword after you boast that he'll fight blindfolded with a hangover?

You'll find out in the gauntlet: fifty encounters that will kill you. That's right. You will die, fool! But even a fool wants his gold, and the monsters have it. Roll a handful of dice, slay a monster, get its treasure. Die with the most gold to win the game.

Dragon's Bard from designer Richard Borg and U.S. publisher Albino Dragon hit the two-thirds mark of its effort to raise $10k within a week of its launch on Kickstarter. (KS link) A game summary:

Quote:
Dragon's Bard is a family card game that explores the rich and vibrant world created by Tracy and Laura Hickman in their popular Dragon's Bard book series. Journey throughout Eventide and Blackshore as you collect stories to bring back to the dragon while creating a name for yourself as a master storyteller.

Up to four players take turns playing suited cards as they attempt to collect the most story tokens by traveling to various locations in the Dragon's Bard universe on the game board. Some cards allow you to amass Rumor or Mandolin tokens to cash in at the end of the game for additional points. Other cards have game-changing effects like changing the turn order or even canceling an entire round of play with the powerful Dragon Rage card.
Board Game: Steel Stars
• Scott MacArthur, designer/publisher of the Australian-based Purgatory Games has launched an Indiegogo campaign for his 4x strategy board game Steel Stars. (IGG link) English rules are available through the BGG game page, but for those who want to keep it brief, here's a summary:

Quote:
Steel Stars is a game of intergalactic warfare amongst rival corporations in Earth's dark future with a near endless number of system configurations and multiple paths to victory – through the council, through research of technologies and advanced abilities, via the creation of popular utopian worlds, or by the might of your powerful fleets.

Each player steps into the powerful and all encompassing shoes of the head of one of the five corporations fighting for the control of the universe. You will need to use cunning, guile, diplomacy, deception, and tactical thinking to make the decisions that will hopefully bring victory, control, renown, and respect to your corporation.

In each round of the game, players select four actions to perform. Players in turn perform one of these. Whenever an action is performed, all other players may also perform that action. The available actions are: Fleet (move ships), Research (develop tech), Council (Create votes on new rules), Planetary (develop your civilization), Energy (generate resources) and Logistics (build new ships). Players score points for colonising worlds, developing tech, building colonies, passing votes and developing their civilisation. The game ends when one player has accumulated 15 points, but that player does not necesarily win, as there are bonus points scored for being the best player in each of several categories.
• Robert Groller at Grumpy Owl Gamery is looking for funding for The Keep, a "configurable, multi-game carry case for collectible card and designer board games". (KS link) As you tell by the image below, The Keep is a giant honking box of plastic that's designed to let you tote games around without worrying about the boxes and without fear of a rhinoceros crushing your game components should you encounter one on the way to game night. To add a quote of my own to the "What Are People Saying?" section of the KS project, I say, "Sweet mother of mercy! This project needs $750,000 to succeed! Fetch me the smelling salts, Clarence, as I do feel me a faint coming on..."
