Fitting the mold of 1980's vintage trivia games of the, "A Bit O' Blarney" challenges its players with the literature, geography, history, legends, and other cultural aspects of Ireland. Players draw a card for their question number, choose a category, try to answer the matching question in the book, and -- if successful -- roll the die, advance, and repeat the procedure. A wrong answer ends the player's turn. Some spaces on the board force a player to answer from a specific category, though the player is limited to this constraint for only three unsuccessful turns.
The winner is the first to arrive at Blarney, "and his prize is the life-long gift of eloquence."
Ideally the game is for two to six players, though its inventor notes that the game may be played solo. Six cardboard "elves" are provided, but the inventor add that it may also be played by more than six people by adding "shirt buttons or pennies" for the other players to move with.
Finally, the game contains an optional 1-hour tape of Irish music and dance, recorded live during a summer ethnic festival in Baltimore.
