Between these turbulent times lay a relatively peaceful period, broken by skirmishes with Wales and Scotland, and two baronial rebellions. The first of these rebellions led to the defeat of King John and the signing of the Magna Carta in 1215; the second was the Parliamentary rebellion led by Simon de Montfort.
