BGG then recorded an overview of the game at the 2020 GAMA Expo (skip from 0:40 to 1:18 as we had a sound issue):
In short, My Hero Academia CCG is a dueling game in which you control a character in the My Hero Academia manga and anime series — either by using a pre-built character deck or by building or modifying a deck with cards purchased in various ways — and you want to reduce the opponent's vitality to zero, while accounting for your unique superheroic quirk. Izuku Midoriya, for example, doesn't have much control, so when you carry out an attack with him, you add 10 damage to whatever the card indicates, but you then discard the remainder of the cards in your hand, putting you at a disadvantage on future turns.
In the video, Jasco's Myles Tyler noted that My Hero Academia CCG was due out in May 2020, but unsurprisingly the game was delayed — with Jasco Games announcing on March 16, 2021 that the game will now debut in mid-2021.
Wave 1 of My Hero Academia CCG includes the 2-Player Rival Deck (with Izuku Midoriya and Katsuki Bakugo as shown in the video above), Deck-Loadable Content (DLC, get it?) packs (with All Might, Tenya Iida, Ochaco Uraraka, and Tsuyu Asui), booster packs, and a series of playmats featuring iconic characters from the anime. The game is designed to be more approachable for new players to Jasco's UniVersus game system, while still being compatible with previous Universal Fighting System (UFS)/UVS releases.
Asmodee USA has an exclusive worldwide distribution deal with Jasco Games for this title, and the two companies plan to support the game with an organized play program.
