• Korean designer Gary Kim had several new games on hand at Spiel 2014, including Chosŏn, Abraca... what? (for which we recorded a video outside the BGG booth), Souk (which Bombyx had only in French and which wasn't exactly new), and 7 Kingdoms from Deinko Games. I liked the sound of this one from the description, but alas by the time I reached the Deinko booth in the latter days of the fair, they'd sold everything but their demo copies. Maybe next year...
• Food Chain? Wasn't a title with the same name released a couple of years ago? Yes, one was, but the food chain is a huge concept that can be tackled in any number of ways, and I'm somewhat surprised that we haven't seen more such games highlight the interaction and relationships between predator and prey. The topic seems like a natural, and such a design could be "accidentally" educational in how it presents material to players. In any case, here's an overview of Dong-Hwa Kim's design released by Deinko Games:
• Every time I see the cover of DoReMi from Deinko Games, I think, "Really? A music-themed game by Evan Song? What are the odds?!" Perhaps "Evan Song" is merely a pseudonym, though, a name chosen for this one game and something to be replaced in 2015 when he releases the sophomore design It's the Pits from Evan Peaches.
• I still have a hard time picturing how Nutgoo.Lee's Magic Cat from Deinko Games is even supposed to work, but a comment on the BGG News post from August 2014 in which I announced this game described it as a variation on a popular drinking game, and that explanation makes much more sense and kind of puts everything in context.
