One of its biggest releases at Gen Con 2014 was Abyss from co-designers Charles Chevallier and Bruno Cathala, with the game being the largest projects to date from publisher Studio Bombyx. Here, Cathala presents an overview of the game:
• Chevallier was also the solo designer of Sultaniya, another Bombyx release that had actually debuted at Origins Game Fair in June 2014. No, not even Gen Con and Spiel are enough to contain all of these gorgeous French releases...
• Cathala returned to the BGG booth at Gen Con 2014 to talk about Cyclades: Titans, a co-design with Ludovic Maublanc that was in a far larger box than I thought it would be — but this expansion is from Matagot, which has a reputation for giant presentations.
• Another Cathala/Maublanc design at Gen Con 2014 was Hurrican's Madame Ching, which I've played four times on a press copy and really enjoyed. I need to do a video of my own about the game at some point, but until then here is someone who isn't Bruno Cathala:
• Sebastian Bleasdale's Black Fleet from Space Cowboys has possibly the most pimped-out pieces ever in a regular edition of a game. Sheesh, those ships are eye-catchers. Just don't get too close to them, though, or they will literally catch your eye...
