Chris Cieslik at U.S. publisher Asmadi Games has announced a new game titled Consequential co-designed by him and Carl Chudyk that will be released in Q2 2013. Cieslik will have the game in preview form at Gen Con 2012 ahead of a Kickstarter project launch in the near future. Here's an overview of the setting and game play:

Quote:
Earth has been connected to the fantasy world of Laris. The result of the mixture of technology and magic is the Cataclysm, an event that tore holes in the fabric of time and space. Five heroes have been pulled together on Laris, where they embark on a journey to mend both worlds.

Consequential is a co-operative board game that lets players live the tale of this adventure through downloadable weekly episodes. Over the course of the season's episodes, players will add additional cards and components from sealed packets within their game. This will bring additional locations and gameplay elements into the mix as the story progresses.

• In mid-August 2012, Smirk & Dagger Games' Curt Covert sent me the following note: "I want to invite you and your readers to come by Smirk & Dagger booth at Gen Con 2012 – #1518 – to get a first look at the Cutthroat Caverns app. It is still a work in progress, but the developers from Meepo Studios will be on hand to talk about the launch plans and show a slide show of the loose interface currently being worked on. I hope to see you in a few days time."

Mayfair Games has announced that Star Trek: Catan – available only through the nationwide retail chain Target in the U.S. – will be distributed by Alliance Game Distributors in Canada, Esdevium in the UK, and Pixelpark in New Zealand.

Frontline General: Spearpoint 1943 Village and Defensive Line Map Expansion from Collins Epic Wargames is headed to distributors and should be available in retail outlets by the end of August 2012.

Portal Publishing has released an...interesting teaser for its upcoming Robinson Crusoe: Adventure on the Cursed Island from Ignacy Trzewiczek, due to debut at Spiel in October 2012. Not sure that's the tagline I'd go with were I to release a cooperative game, but who knows?

• And in case you're headed to Gen Con and don't already have enough games on your plate – or if you like being a test subject for unpublished games – John Moller at Cartrunk Entertainment has compiled a short list (PDF) of nearly sixty prototypes and preproduction copies of games that will be available somewhere at the convention, along with contact information for the designers/publishers responsible for these games. For brief game descriptions and playtest/demo times for some of these games, check out the 16-page long list (PDF). Assuming I'm still conscious in the late hours after finally finishing the Gen Con 2012 Preview and covering the show itself, I'll be looking for games to play. Yes, play! Maybe I'll see you there?
