New Game Round-up: The Nile Will Run Red While You Explore Valley of the Kings for Illegal Tiny Epic Kingdoms
Board Game Publisher: Small Box Games
• Designer John Clowdus of Small Box Games posted this update on Facebook on Nov. 25, 2013 about The Nile Will Run Red:

Quote:
Last game of the year/first game of 2014 will be a collection of games in one box, for one low price (around $10/game in the collection)... None of the games are "remakes", though you might notice some sort of familiar mechanics in two of the games. All games use independent main components and collective "resource" components.
Board Game: Tiny Epic Kingdoms
• In January 2014, U.S. publisher Gamelyn Games plans to launch a Kickstarter project for Tiny Epic Kingdoms, a 4X fantasy-based microgame from designer Scott Almes (Kings of Air and Steam, Martian Dice).

Quote:
You are a tiny kingdom with big ambition. You want to expand your population throughout the realms, learn powerful magic, build grand towers, and have your neighbors quiver at the mention of your name. The conflict? All of the other kingdoms want the same thing and there's not enough room for everyone to succeed...

In Tiny Epic Kingdoms, a 4X fantasy game in a pocket-size package, each player starts with a unique faction (which has a unique technology tree) and a small territory. Throughout the game, players collect resources, explore other territories, battle each other, research magic, and work to build a great tower to protect their realm.
Board Game: Valley of the Kings
• You know what I missed out on playing at BGG.CON 2013? Well, lots of stuff actually, but in particular Tom Cleaver's Valley of the Kings, due out from AEG in Q3 2014. Here's a short description of the game from the publisher:

Quote:
When you die, you can take it with you!

Take on the role of Egyptian nobles at the time of the pharaohs, preparing for their death and burial in the Valley of the Kings. Using an innovative deck-building mechanism with a crumbling pyramid, players fill their tombs with food, canopic jars, statues, amulets and other treasures. The player who collects the most valuable artifacts in her tomb wins the game!
• After releasing an updated version of Dungeon! board game in October 2012, Wizards of the Coast apparently has yet another version coming in June 2014, as noted in a game listing on Amazon.com. (HT: D6Frog)

• Designer Christophe Boelinger (Dungeon Twister, Archipelago) has been teasing the next release from his own publishing company Ludically on Facebook, a party game titled Illegal in which players take on the role of dealers of the most illegal — or, at a minimum, questionable — resources on the planet. Check out the artwork on the two character cards revealed so far, and you'll probably come to the same conclusion I already have, namely that Asmodee will not be picking up this title for distribution in the U.S. unless they want to cause heads to asplode all across the Midwest...
