• Steve Jackson Games will add something sort of new to its Munchkin series that same month: Star Munchkin Deluxe, which features the same gameplay and components as the second edition of Star Munchkin released in 2010, but now with a game board and stand-up figures.
• The depraved yet charitable souls responsible for Cards Against Humanity have launched their latest holiday-themed expansion of sorts — Cards Against Humanity: Ten Days Or Whatever of Kwanzaa — and despite having 250,000 slots available (with a limit of one slot per address), it's possible that they'll sell out shortly after you read this note, or possibly even before it given that they've sold nearly 90,000 slots in less than twelve hours.
What does Ten Days Or Whatever of Kwanzaa consist of? No idea. As with 2013's CAH: 12 Days of Holiday Bullshit, they're promising to mail you "ten mystery gifts" over ten days in exchange for $15. (All profits from the 2012 and 2013 holiday packs were donated to other organizations, so perhaps that will be the case here. Again, no idea. They didn't reveal the 2013 donation until after the goods started arriving in the mail.)
• Swedish publisher FryxGames has decided not to waste any time and has already announced its Spiel 2015 release: Terraforming Mars from designer Jacob Fryxelius. An overview:
In Terraforming Mars, you play one of those corporations and work together in the terraforming process, but compete for victory points that are awarded not only for your contribution to the terraforming, but also for advancing human infrastructure throughout the solar systems and doing other commendable things.
The players acquire unique project cards (with over two hundred in the game) which can represent introducing plant life or animals, hurling asteroids at the surface, mining the moons of Jupiter, establishing greenhouse gas industries to heat up the atmosphere and much more. The cards can give you immediate bonuses in addition to increasing your production of different resources, but many cards become playable only when the temperature, oxygen, or ocean coverage increases enough.
A variable board set-up, randomized encounters and enemies, a simple but robust monster AI – all that makes for a game that is a varied and challenging experience both solitaire as well as with a group of up to three friends. Gather up your resolve, check your gear and get ready to brave the unrelenting Mists. A world of perilous adventures awaits!
• NSKN Games is also moving ahead with expansion plans for its 2012 release Exodus: Proxima Centauri.
