New Game Round-up: Smash Up Pretties Up, Kwanzaa Gets Fêted (Sort Of) & Mars Gets Remade
Board Game: Smash Up: Pretty Pretty Smash Up
Board Game: Star Munchkin
• Successful game series keep having new titles announced for them — whodathunkit? One of those series for which a new item is coming is Paul Peterson's Smash Up from AEG, which come March 2015 will see Pretty Pretty Smash Up arrive in stores. This set, like previous Smash Up expansions, can be used on its own as a two-player game or combined with other expansions or the base game for use with up to four players. AEG has posted detailed faction descriptions and the entire rulebook on its website, and here's an overview for you:

Quote:
Think only pirates, time travelers, vampires and bears can smash bases? Well, get ready to be taught a lesson — in the nicest way possible!

Pretty Pretty Smash Up brings the sweetest factions ever to the vicious fight for victory! Kitty Cats use their incredible cuteness to take control of enemy minions. Princesses ply their royalty, beauty and even their love to get their way. Fairies' fickle tricks give you options like never before, while the herds of Mythic Horses work together for dominance. Get ready — your opponents will never know what hit them!

Steve Jackson Games will add something sort of new to its Munchkin series that same month: Star Munchkin Deluxe, which features the same gameplay and components as the second edition of Star Munchkin released in 2010, but now with a game board and stand-up figures.

Board Game: Cards Against Humanity: Ten Days or Whatever of Kwanzaa
• The depraved yet charitable souls responsible for Cards Against Humanity have launched their latest holiday-themed expansion of sorts — Cards Against Humanity: Ten Days Or Whatever of Kwanzaa — and despite having 250,000 slots available (with a limit of one slot per address), it's possible that they'll sell out shortly after you read this note, or possibly even before it given that they've sold nearly 90,000 slots in less than twelve hours.

What does Ten Days Or Whatever of Kwanzaa consist of? No idea. As with 2013's CAH: 12 Days of Holiday Bullshit, they're promising to mail you "ten mystery gifts" over ten days in exchange for $15. (All profits from the 2012 and 2013 holiday packs were donated to other organizations, so perhaps that will be the case here. Again, no idea. They didn't reveal the 2013 donation until after the goods started arriving in the mail.)

Board Game: Terraforming Mars
• Swedish publisher FryxGames has decided not to waste any time and has already announced its Spiel 2015 release: Terraforming Mars from designer Jacob Fryxelius. An overview:

Quote:
In the 2400s, mankind begins to terraform the planet Mars. Giant corporations, sponsored by the World Government on Earth, initiate huge projects to raise the temperature, the oxygen level, and the ocean coverage until the environment is habitable.

In Terraforming Mars, you play one of those corporations and work together in the terraforming process, but compete for victory points that are awarded not only for your contribution to the terraforming, but also for advancing human infrastructure throughout the solar systems and doing other commendable things.

The players acquire unique project cards (with over two hundred in the game) which can represent introducing plant life or animals, hurling asteroids at the surface, mining the moons of Jupiter, establishing greenhouse gas industries to heat up the atmosphere and much more. The cards can give you immediate bonuses in addition to increasing your production of different resources, but many cards become playable only when the temperature, oxygen, or ocean coverage increases enough.
Board Game Publisher: NSKN Games
• Not to be outdone, Romanian publisher NSKN Games has announced an August 2015 release date for Błażej Kubacki's Mistfall, which it describes as "a fully cooperative adventure game set in a fantasy world of mystery, eldritch powers and high adventure". In somewhat more detail:

Quote:
At the start of the game each player chooses a hero with a fixed deck of equipment and power cards, before embarking on a dangerous journey through a set of monster-ridden locations. Each hero also comes with a pool of advanced abilities that can be added to their basic deck during the game to customize and expand their powers.

A variable board set-up, randomized encounters and enemies, a simple but robust monster AI – all that makes for a game that is a varied and challenging experience both solitaire as well as with a group of up to three friends. Gather up your resolve, check your gear and get ready to brave the unrelenting Mists. A world of perilous adventures awaits!
Kubacki has started to blog about the world of Mistfall on BGG should you care to learn more about the setting in the months ahead.

• NSKN Games is also moving ahead with expansion plans for its 2012 release Exodus: Proxima Centauri.
