New Game Round-up: Monasteries for Carcassonne, Rats for Ascension & Retirees for Bedpans and Broomsticks

New Game Round-up: Monasteries for Carcassonne, Rats for Ascension & Retirees for Bedpans and Broomsticks
Board Game: Bedpans & Broomsticks
• U.S. publisher Mayfair Games has announced a new title from Frederic Moyersoen, one that sounds reminiscent of his Nuns on the Run at first read given that players are trying to escape from a building. The description is light on gameplay details, though, so right now we mostly just have the setting and goal for Bedpans & Broomsticks:

Quote:
It's the start of another day in the Shady Pines retirement home. Your abode is pleasant enough, but the home is not very exciting for someone like you. Why, back in the day, you were a mover and shaker — or at least you think you were. It's hard to remember exactly...

The other inmates — sorry, that's residents — refer to you and the other more active seniors as the "Elders". Today, the Elders are going on a field trip. After all it's the 4th...or is it the Queen's birthday...or...never mind: You've heard the staff talking, and it's a nice day outside and you would really enjoy a walk along the beach and maybe a drink at a seaside cafe.

However, your bold plans have a few obstacles to overcome. The nurses, Doctor Tuur, and the rest of the staff have no intention of allowing unauthorized excursions. In addition, you cannot remember where the exit really is. Luckily, you have pieced together that the exits are on the ground floor, and that your room is on the floor above that.

Bedpans & Broomsticks is a custodial confrontation toe-to-toe with the staff. Will you prevail and escape, or will you fail and remain safe and secure in the environs of the home? Are you ready to escape from Shady Pines?!?
Board Game: Carcassonne: Klöster in Deutschland
Carcassonne: Die Klöster is a small expansion for Carcassonne from Hans im Glück released for Easter 2014 that allows you to replace the monasteries in the base game with six new monastery tiles, with each depicting a Germany monastery. When you place a tile from Die Klöster, you can place a monk on the tile as usual (with the figure being scored and removed only when the monastery tile is surrounded by eight other tiles) or you can lay the figure on its side to indicate its status as abbot; abbots remain in place until the end of the game, then they score one point for the monastery itself and for each tile connected to the monastery in rows and columns leading away from it.

Hans im Glück notes that this expansion will be available in its store until April 27, then limited to sales on the Carcassonne-Tour before being available again in October in time for Spiel 2014.

• Four years after publishing the third edition of DungeonQuest, Fantasy Flight Games is launching a new version of the game titled DungeonQuest Revised Edition that "features a streamlined combat system that harkens back to the classic editions of the game, and a deadlier dungeon than ever before". This version of the game also includes a new "Torchlight" variant, and BGG user Matthew Collier has summarized the differences between old-ish and new in this BGG thread.

Steve Jackson Games plans to release a 15-card Munchkin Princesses booster pack in August 2014.

• In March 2014 Stone Blade Entertainment announced the June release of Ascension: Realms Unraveled, the fourth large standalone title in the Ascension deck-building game series. Before Realms hits the market, however, Stone Blade has another Ascension release due out on May 14, 2014 — Ascension: Theme Packs, as detailed in the description below:

Quote:
Each Ascension: Theme Pack features twelve game cards that can be added to any Ascension expansion to put a new twist on exisiting gameplay. Embrace the chaos with Rat King and Rat Queen, chase pots of gold with Leprechaun, or take part in the gift-giving mischief of Samael Claus!
Family: Game: Ascension Deck Building

Update, April 24, 2014: Turns out that the theme packs are a new presentation of cards previously released as promotional items, so I've removed the separate Ascension: Theme Packs listing and created new versions for the existing four listings in the BGG database: Leprechaun, Rat King, Rat Queen and Samael Claus.
