New Game Round-up: Mare Nostrum to Sail Again, Another Trip to the Moon & Munchkin Invades Castle Panic, Love Letter
Board Game: Munchkin Panic
• Now here's an interesting combination of forces: Munchkin Panic is, as the name suggests, a blending of Fireside Games' Castle Panic and Steve Jackson Games' Munchkin. This hybrid design from Anne-Marie De Witt is due out Q4 2014 from Fireside, which had previously spun off Dead Panic from De Witt's husband Justin in 2013. Here's an overview of how the two games combine into one:

Quote:
In the semi-cooperative board game Munchkin Panic, which blends the all-for-one gameplay of Castle Panic and the all-for-me gameplay of Munchkin, the Munchkin monsters have found the Castle Panic towers and are on the rampage! Players need to combine cards to hit and slay the monsters before they destroy the castle. The card combos available in Munchkin Panic are created from a unique mixing of the decks of the two source games. Each defeated monster becomes a trophy and gives up its treasure to the victor. If players work together to defeat the monsters, the player with the highest point count becomes Master Munchkin — but players must balance their self-interest with the cooperation necessary to survive. If players get too greedy, the monsters will stomp the castle flat while the players are too busy fighting amongst themselves!
Board Game: Love Letter
• But wait! That's not the only publisher blend to announce today as SJG is also partnering with Alderac Entertainment Group to release Munchkin: Loot Letter, which moves Seiji Kanai's Love Letter into the Munchkin universe to have players fighting for control of the Hoard at the end of the round. Munchkin: Loot Letter is due out August 2014. Is anything immune from being Munchkinized at this point? Is this process limited only by the speed with which John Kovalic can draw?!

• Designer Philip duBarry has revealed info on his Phantasio Games blog about an upcoming release titled Hitler Must Die:

Quote:
It's a gritty cooperative game in which players are German citizens, soldiers, and officials who try to assassinate the tyrannical leader of Nazi Germany. In the game, players collect cards and items (combined with location and timing) to set up a successful plot. The game ends with a single roll of the dice. There are many variables and modifiers going into this dice roll, but players just have to roll a high enough total to overcome the current threshold (determined by Hitler's security stance and military support). Rolling well will mean winning the game. Rolling badly doesn't necessarily mean you lose, but it makes things much, much worse.
I'm amused that (1) duBarry describes Hitler in such a dramatic manner and (2) the game seems to come down to one roll of the dice, which makes historical sense (as you'd likely have only a single chance of success before being taken down by security forces), but such results would likely drive some folks crazy.

Board Game: Mare Nostrum
• A new edition of Serge Laget's Mare Nostrum will be released in 2014 from French publisher Asyncron Games with rules being available in at least English and French. Asyncron's Mare Nostrum game page is minimal for now, but a couple of things to note are the expanded player range (2-5 instead of 3-5) and Bruno Cathala's involvement as developer.

• Philippe Keyaerts's Twin Tin Bots from Flatlined Games is now available for online play at both Board Game Arena and Boîte à Jeux.

• Designer Alban Viard is releasing a third edition of Age of Steam: The Moon, his expansion that has players building railroad track in order to move goods across the lifeless surface of the moon. Who wants these goods anyway?! This edition includes a satellite expansion that Viard describes as "a new hex that turns around the Moon and delivers new cubes". Every satellite can use a satellite; after all, we all want someone to look up to us. Todd Sanders provides this version's new steampunk look. Viard notes that he's printed one hundred copies of the expansion in A2 format with the item costing €13 for those in Europe and €14 elsewhere, shipping included. Interested parties can contact him by email: [email protected].

• Viard also notes that his next release will be CliniC, a 3D-building game with "tons of tiles and cubes" that he'll self-publish in an edition of 150-200 copies. More details once I have them...
