New Game Round-up: Goblin Wrestlers, Werewolf Urban Legends & Bejeweled Games
Board Game: BodgerMania
• U.S. publisher Privateer Press has announced a fourth title in its line of Bodgers card games, the new title being BodgerMania, which is themed around goblin wrestling. The short description:

Quote:
In BodgerMania, each player takes on the role of a goblin bodger-turned-wrestler ready to square off in the ring for fame and glory. The bodgers battle to beat down their rivals in a series of matches leading up to the main event, each glorious three-count helping them get over with the crowd to earn the fans, favors, and influence they need to get an edge in the championship. Suplex your opponents into submission in the main event to claim the coveted Bodger Belt and become champion – until the next pay-per-view event, anyway!
BodgerMania is due out in April 2013 and will retail for $22; the press release announcing the title mentions that "Privateer Press is producing two promotional cards that will be available through preorder promotions and game demos as well as at Privateer Press convention appearances".

Board Game: ROFL!
• U.S. publisher Cryptozoic Entertainment plans to release a party game from cartoonist John Kovalic in Q2 2013 titled ROFL! In case you can't guess the gameplay from the title, here's a summary of the game:

Quote:
Can you condense a well-known phrase down to just a few letters and symbols? Can you do it using fewer characters than any other player, but still get your message across? Find out with ROFL!

ROFL! pits players against each other as they strive to condense messages down to as few characters as possible. To start a turn, players see a phrase card, while the Guesser does not. Players compete with one another to accurately relay the secret message on the phrase card in as few characters as possible. If the Guesser can figure out the original phrase from your clue before time runs out, you both score points! Everybody gets to be a Guesser once per round, and the player with the most points after three rounds wins!
Board Game: Bejeweled Frenzy
Board Game: Bejeweled
• In other mainstream gaming news, we have Hasbro announcing two titles that trade on the popularity of the Bejeweled series of game apps: Bejeweled and Bejeweled Frenzy. The first title is a board game in which players move gems in order to create Ye Olde Three-in-a-Row, which earns them coins in the matching color and three coins then become a triple, and three triples wins the game. The second title is a card game in which players match cards to collect gems of both the regular and Boost varieties. Where's My Water?, Temple Run: Danger Chase, more than a dozen flavors of Angry Birds – it's interesting to see apps transformed into mainstream games just like movies, television shows, and any other media. Digital gaming is fully embedded in mainstream culture, spreading the process of life's gamification and leading us who knows where in the years to come...

Board Game: Ultimate Werewolf: Ultimate Edition
Board Game: Ultimate Werewolf: Urban Legends
• As he has done several times previously, designer/publisher Ted Alspach is releasing a new edition of Ultimate Werewolf: Ultimate Edition through his own Bézier Games, and just as previous editions have featured the mini-expansions Classic Movie Monsters and Night Terrors, the 2013 edition of Ultimate Werewolf: Ultimate Edition – due out in March – will include a new set of roles for players to incorporate into their games. Here's what players will discover in Ultimate Werewolf: Urban Legends:

Quote:
We've all heard the stories: A giant furry beast roaming the hills, a mother bent on revenge for her unjust death, a mischievous taunting elf-like creature – but that's all they are, just legends...right?

Ultimate Werewolf: Urban Legends brings these characters to life within Ultimate Werewolf. If Bloody Mary dies, she starts killing the players who killed her...from the grave. The ferocious Chupacabra loves the taste of werewolf, but if he runs out of them, villagers will do. The Wolf Man hunts with the werewolves, but to the Seer he appears as an innocent villager. The tricky Leprechaun sides with the village, messing with the werewolves by changing their nighttime target. All Sasquatch ever wanted to do was to help the village kill werewolves...but if the village wavers on this, Sasquatch will turn on them. And finally, Nostradamus has to make a name for himself by predicting who will win each game of Ultimate Werewolf – and then helps out his prediction. All or some of these characters can be added to your Ultimate Werewolf games to make them even more compelling than before!
In addition to being included in the 2013 edition of UW:UE, Urban Legends will be available on its own as a mini-expansion and is also due out March 2013. At the same time, Alspach plans to release a reprint of Ultimate Werewolf: Night Terrors, which he notes "was out of stock shortly after it became available in late 2011 due to crazy-high demand". All of these items are available for preorder on the Bézier Games website. And for your amusement, Alspach included the following werewolf evolution summary along with his announcement of the items above. Amazing how long it took him to see what he had under his very nose – of course he is inordinately tall, so perhaps it merely took him a long time to look down that far...
