As you can guess from the title, ONUW Daybreak inhabits the same world as One Night Ultimate Werewolf (itself a reimplementation of Akihisa Okui's One Night Werewolf), with players each taking a hidden role, then possibly using their powers during a "night" period in which each player has their eyes closed. In the morning that follows night, the humans in the game — that is, those without a werewolf card — need to choose someone to lynch, and if they lynch a werewolf, they win; otherwise the werewolves win. (Except, of course, if the Tanner is lynched as he's kind of a suicidal recluse and wants to end his life. In this case, he wins all on his own.)
ONUW Daybreak introduces ten new character roles, and given this tagline — "No Moderator. No Elimination. No Villagers." — you can conclude that none of them are plain villagers. No, everyone has a special power this time, with three of the character names shown below. ONUW Daybreak can be played on its own with 3-7 players or combined with the original ONUW for games with up to ten players. Alspach notes that he plans to launch a Kickstarter campaign for the game on September 29, 2014, with delivery at BGG.CON (or to your home) in November 2014 being possible prior to the game's release in January 2015. Adds Alspach, "Some of the free extras for KS backers include alternative artwork for popular characters and even more roles."
• Josh Cappel is best known in the board game industry as an artist, but he has two game design credits as well, including a co-designer credit for Wasabi! He will double that number of credits in the next year or two as Z-Man Games has signed two of his games for publication. From Cappel's announcement:
• Granna also has a new standalone game due out in October, with both titles surely showing up at Spiel 2014: Adam Kałuża's Mr. House, which has nothing to do with the medical-based TV show, but is instead something that sounds like a reality TV show brought to life. An overview:
The difficulty of doing so, however, will be much the same as in reality! Players must manage a budget and construction teams, buy materials on the market, and plan the sequence of work — all while time passes! In this economic, worker placement game, whoever creates the most beautiful home wins!
