From the Stars to the Table with Flash Gordon, Altered Carbon, and the Diving Universe

From the Stars to the Table with Flash Gordon, Altered Carbon, and the Diving Universe
Board Game Publisher: Warcradle Studios
• At this point I'm not sure what can't be licensed for the creation of a board or card game. UK publisher Warcradle Studios, for example, has announced that it will release the two-player card game Flash Gordon: Death to Ming! to celebrate the fortieth anniversary of the Flash Gordon film, a film best remembered for the title track by Queen rather than anything in the film itself.

Here's an overview of the game, which will be released in Q1 2021:
Quote:
In the fast-paced fighting card game Flash Gordon: Death to Ming!, players go head-to-head to determine the fate of Mongo. Each player takes on the role of a well-known character from the movie, with these characters being split into "good" and "evil", then players go head-to-head in Ming's throne room to determine the fate of Mongo. Through heroism or treachery, players will customize their card deck with weapons and abilities unique to those iconic characters.

Board Game: Flash Gordon: Death to Ming!

Determine who will triumph: Flash Gordon and his allies, or the forces of Ming the Merciless!
• Staying with Warcradle Studios, but moving closer to the present day in terms of the original material, we have Altered Carbon Fightdrome, a two-player game based on the Altered Carbon novel series from Richard K. Morgan, with Morgan being credited as co-designer on the game along with Jim Radford. Here's an overview of this 2020 release:
Quote:
This game places gamers at the heart of the infamous Panama Rose combat arena, with Panama Rose being the first in a planned series of Fightdromes. Players take on the role of competitors who fight it out to determine which of them is superior. Before starting a game, players agree how to be declared winner: by playing until one player is out of cards, or by being the first player to reach an agreed number of "fame" points. Each round is referred to as a bout, and playing for "fame" points involves a series of bouts.

Board Game: Fightdrome: Panama Rose

Each player has their fighter's digital consciousness (known as a stack) placed in an engineered or augmented body (known as a sleeve) for each bout. Your card deck will be customized depending on which combination of stack and sleeve you are using. Competitors must then kick, punch, and grapple their way to the top, attempting to outwit their opponent, place killing blows, and become the champion of the Fightdrome.
Board Game Publisher: Catalyst Game Labs
• Staying in the science-fiction genre but moving to modern releases, Catalyst Game Labs is partnering with author Kristine Kathryn Rusch to create one or more games set in her "Diving Universe", which to date consists of ten novels and fifteen novellas.

Diving Into The Wreck is a co-operative press-your-luck "Encounters" game in which you dive into explorations as one of the characters in this universe. Players use a set of six dice to defeat a storyline of challenge cards, hoping to discover deeper secrets as they go, accruing and spending resources, watching each other's back, and solving each phase as they move toward the final challenge.

Board Game: Diving Into The Wreck

Diving Into The Wreck is currently available solely as a reward in a Kickstarter campaign for new fiction from Rusch, although Catalyst notes that it will make Diving novels and games available through its webstore in the future.
