Episode #5 of The BoardGameGeek Show — Coverage from Cannes, Funagain Closes, and More

The latest episode of The BoardGameGeek Show is now live, which is a few hours earlier than normal as we wanted early viewers to still have time to vote for their favorite nominees for the 2017 Golden Geek Awards before the end of Thursday, March 8. Now you know about this deadline as well.

In the episode, we chat about games we've played recently, the closing of online sales and Kickstarter fulfillment by Funagain Games, observations on the industry from Phil Reed of Steve Jackson Games, and what we saw and played in Cannes, France during the Festival International des Jeux, which took place February 23-25, 2018. Was that already two weeks ago? Sheesh.

Even if you don't care to hear Scott, Lincoln and I chatter about this and that, I'd suggest you start watching at 35:00 for an understanding of the Off, a.k.a. Nuits de Off, the after-hours program at FIJ where dozens of designers and publishers show off prototypes of upcoming games and games under development to hundreds of players. I've never seen something this large at any other convention (although I haven't been to Unpub yet), and if you want to understand why French designers and publishers have a reputation for being open about everything they're working on, this video will serve as evidence for that behavior.
