Board Game Publisher: Joey Games
Designer Phil Walker-Harding and artist Meredith Walker-Harding have started their own publishing company: Joey Games. The name emphasizes the focus of the company to release "board games about Australia", with the intended audience being children and adults who play together — which fits the audience of pretty much all games that Phil Walker-Harding has released since his debut in 2007 with Archaeology through his first publishing company, Adventureland Games.

Joey Games will launch with three titles, all of which have been designed by PWH, with a crowdfunding campaign scheduled for sometime in 2022. One of the debut titles is Scribbly Gum, which features the eucalyptus trees, a.k.a., the scribbly gum tree, native to Australia. Here's an overview of this game for one or more players:
Quote:
Did you know Australia's scribbly gum trees get their beautiful scribbles from baby moths burrowing through the bark? In Scribbly Gum, each player has their own tree diagram and every turn gets to draw a line that leads to food for your baby moth to eat. Collect sets of food to score points. Whoever scribbles their way to the most valuable food wins!

Board Game: Scribbly Gum

Scribbly Gum can be played with any number of players at once and includes directions for classroom play.
Meredith Walker-Harding provides art for both that title and Pass the Party Food, a co-operative game for 2-4 players:
Quote:
Throwback to 1989 and dig in to your all-time favorite party food! There's fairy bread, lamingtons, green snakes, and more.

Board Game: Pass the Party Food

Working together in Pass the Party Food, players need to collect their favorite treats and share them with their friends at the right time — but watch out because Ziggy, the mischievous puppy, is trying to grab food off the table! If you can outscore him as a team, you will all win the game together.
As I have just learned from Wikipedia, "A lamington is an Australian cake made from squares of butter cake or sponge cake coated in an outer layer of chocolate sauce and rolled in desiccated coconut. The thin mixture is absorbed into the outside of the sponge cake and left to set, giving the cake a distinctive texture. A common variation has a layer of cream or strawberry jam between two lamington halves." I approve of all games that focus on food. More, please!

The final debut title from Joey Games is Busy Beaks, a 2-4 player card game that features art from Sarah Allen, who previously published wrote and illustrated a book of the same name:
Quote:
Get to know Australia's most fascinating birds in Busy Beaks.

Board Game: Busy Beaks

In the game, each player collects bird cards and gathers them into flocks to score points. Whoever makes the most valuable flocks wins! Each bird also has a special ability, like the Powerful Owl who lets you search the deck for the card you really need, or the mimicking Magpie who lets you copy another card. Choose which birds you want to use each game to make every play feel different.
The Walker-Hardings note that Joey Games is "committed to running a sustainable business that integrates care for the planet into all decision-making: game design, manufacturing and supply chain partnerships". You can find details of these commitments on the Impact page of the Joey Games website.

Phil Walker-Harding anticipates releasing the games in 2023, and as for whether they will be sold via retailers through distribution, he told me, "As for availability outside Australia, we are still deciding on what will be in place when we launch the games, in part based on the type of interest shown during our crowdfunding campaign."
