Dozen War is a strategy game built around heroes, squads, and precise positioning in the fantasy world of Mativen. The game offers two playing modes—Engage and War Gods.
War Gods is a large-scale conflicts for 3–4 players, playable as free-for-all or cooperative battles, with playtime around 90 - 150 minutes and broader strategic planning.
While in Engage, two players face off on a compact battlefield, each commanding one hero and a small squad of troops. Victory is simple and brutal: eliminate the enemy hero. If the first player avoids combat for five turns, they automatically lose.
Each turn, players freely mix three actions:
Move units and hero, with strict one-unit-per-space positioning
Attack enemies within range, with each unit limited to one attack per turn
Play equipment cards and hero skills, up to one of each per turn
Every unit matters. Infantry can absorb damage for nearby allies. Archers strike at range without obstruction. Cavalry punish poor formation with piercing attacks that carry damage through fallen units. Heroes add another layer, bringing passive traits and three unique active skills that can only be used at precise moments—offense, defense, or both.
The duel emphasizes spatial control and sequencing. Units do not advance after attacks. Skills can lock heroes out of further actions. Cards can swing exchanges, but only if timed correctly. With limited troops and no negotiation, every move commits you closer to victory—or exposes your hero.
