Direwild is a fully cooperative, tactical dungeon-crawling deck-building game set in a dangerous land where survival depends on unity and careful planning. Players take on the roles of animists—heroes who forge powerful bonds with the creatures of Direwild—standing together against a growing darkness that threatens to consume the world.
Each hero begins with a small, unique deck of creatures that can be summoned into play. As the game progresses, players expand and refine their decks by charming new creatures, unlocking powerful synergies, and shaping distinct playstyles. Creatures provide both offensive strength and strategic options, allowing heroes to adapt to increasingly dangerous encounters.
The game unfolds across a shared map filled with hostile minions, treasure, and magical rewards. Players must coordinate their movement and actions, choosing when to engage enemies and when to press forward. Time is a constant pressure, as lingering too long gives the enemy forces an opportunity to strike back. Direwild is driven entirely by the game system—there is no dungeon master—ensuring a tense and consistent challenge for the entire group.
At the heart of the adventure lies a corrupted animist whose influence warps the land and its creatures. Over the course of multiple chapters, players grow stronger while working to weaken this looming threat, culminating in a climactic final confrontation. A built-in save system allows the campaign to be paused and continued across multiple sessions.
