On the small island of Malta, build and destroy in cutthroat real-estate competition.
Construction BOOM! is a strategic two-player tile-laying game made at the Institute of Digital Games (University of Malta). It is a playable satire of the unrestrained residential construction in Malta, and a criticism of the "BOOMING" real-estate business on our little island.
In the game, you take on the role of construction tycoons in Malta, strategizing and sabotaging to complete your building contract and rake in the cash.
The standard game of Construction BOOM! has four rounds. The contractor needs to have placed a certain amount of one type of material on the board by the end of the round. They're penalized when they fail. The saboteur will try and make those penalties accumulate by, for example, placing roofs in inconvenient places or by overloading buildings. The tile types, materials, and weights govern the placement rules.
A round finishes when neither player has any more cards to play or when there are two consecutive passes. At the end of the round if the contractor makes their contract they get points, if not, they lose points — which is great news for the saboteur!
