9tka ("dziewiątka" = "nine" in Polish) is played on a 9x9 square grid, divided into nine 3x3 sections. Each of the sections starts with a neutral token placed at random in it, but not on any of the squares that comprise the outer ring of the game board.
In the first phase of play, players take turns placing their tokens around the outside edge of the board until each board edge has nine tokens next to it (one per square), so that a total of 36 tokens have been placed around the board.
In the second phase of play, players take turns moving their tokens into the board in a straight line until they stop due to another token blocking further forward movement. A token can become blocked from even entering the board.
After all player tokens have moved onto the board (or blocked from entering), scoring takes place: For each of the nine 3x3 regions, the player with the most tokens in it earns a point. (In case of tie, no one earns the point for the region.) In case of a tie, the tied player who moved last wins.
